An affable man goes on a journey
No matter if he is filming a documentary, teaches curse phrases to japanese teachers, goes on a rampage in Cyberpunk with his (second?) best american friend, is on a roadtrip in an RV, or cycling with a welshman across Japan, Chris Broad always seems to be grumpy.
Yet he has a lot of (dry) humor and passion for filmmaking and Japan and this book is like an extralong video of his, helped by the fact that he knows how to narrate and does so in this book.
If you watch his videos, you definitely won't regret listening to this book and if not, I still recommend it, if you have the slightest interest in some behind-the-scenes of different aspects of living in Japan.

One of the best audio books I've ever listened to.
I never heard through a book so fast as this one! I already love Chris YouTube channel. So listening to this book felt very nostalgic, since I followed him for many years already.
Last but not least, he is a joy to listen to, even as a non native speaker as myself.

Honest
Beautifully told adventure of an authentic person. First half is extremely funny, then it gets more and more serious - while still having comic reliefs here and there. The funny part made me laugh so hard and captured me, but the more serious and emotional parts won over my heart.

Laughs and tears, a true journey
Chris let's you in on his personal journey and his good-natured, sarcastic, but also vulnerable narration is a real joy to listen to. I smiled many times throughout the book and even laughed out loud a few times in the middle of the street. The stories from Kesennuma brought tears to my eyes. Definitely worth a listen.

Fantastic
As a long time viewer of his YouTube channel as well as listener to the abroad in Japan podcast I just had to get the Audiobook read by the man, the myth, the legend himself!
It was greatly narrated and gave an even deeper view into the sometimes strange yet amazing time Chris Broad had in Japan so far!
Definitely not regretting getting this audiobook and probably will get a physical copy of the book as well!

Fantastic book
I’m watching Chris Broads Videos on YouTube for an eternity and always loved his style of storytelling and humor. This book is beautifully written and voiced by the author himself. You’ll cry laughing and also be touched by the history of Japan. I loved this book so much!

Highly enjoyable
It was a great book to listen to - light yet insightful, funny and genuine. A very interesting insight for the viewers of the YouTube channel. But also for others - a humorous book about experiences of a person moving to Japan.

Umarvelous
I'm glad Chris narrated the book himself, he did a really good job with it. Great storytelling, I was completely immersed and the jokes sprinkled in-between had me cracking up. Definitely one of my all-time-favorites.

An incredible journey.
I'm shocked myself at what has happened in the eight years since I started following Chris' YouTube channel. Listening to it all again made me feel a bit melancholy. I really enjoyed the audio book. I somehow had the feeling the whole time that Chris was standing next to me and telling me about the last 10 years. I am curious if there will be a second book in 10 years and what will happen until then. I definitely enjoyed the audio book and the book itself. I am also looking forward to future projects. Hopefully I will be able to have my book signed sometime. Until then I hope that many more people will enjoy this really great audio book. Kind regards from Germany.
